Shiawassee County Inmate Lookup
The official local starting point for a current Shiawassee County inmate record is the Shiawassee County Jail page. That page gives the jail address and a dedicated inmate information phone line at 989-743-2230. It does not publish a public online roster, current-booking list, public mugshot gallery, or searchable jail population database in the county sources reviewed. For that reason, the correct local search path is phone first for current custody, then sheriff records or FOIA for releasable booking records that are not answered by phone.
Sheriff Douglas Chapman leads the Shiawassee County Sheriff's Office, which operates the jail at 201 E. McArthur Street, Corunna, MI 48817. The sheriff main line is 989-743-3411. Those numbers should not be treated as a name-search website. They are the official local contact channels for the jail, visit scheduling, records routing, and custody questions that cannot be solved through Michigan Courts, MDOC OTIS, VINELink, BOP, or ICE.
The official jail page is shown in the county screenshot from the Shiawassee County Sheriff's Office jail page.
The image matters because it documents the local jail information channel and operational sections, not an online inmate roster.
Shiawassee County Roster Channels
Because no official Shiawassee County online jail roster was located, the search workflow is a fallback chain rather than a roster form. Start with the jail information line if the question is immediate custody. Move to sheriff records or FOIA when the question is about a booking record, report copy, or booking photo. Use the courts only after a case has been filed, since jail booking information and court-filed charges are different records.
- Open the official jail page and confirm that the search is for the Shiawassee County Jail, not a private database or another county.
- Call inmate information at 989-743-2230 for current custody questions, recent intake status, visit eligibility, and basic routing.
- If the arrest is recent, allow time for intake, identity checks, medical screening, fingerprints, booking photo, classification, and bond or first-appearance steps.
- For records that are not released by phone, use the sheriff records page or the sheriff FOIA page.
- Search Michigan Courts case search once charges are filed or a court date is assigned.
- Use MDOC, VINELink, BOP, or ICE only when the person is in the matching state, notification, federal, or immigration system.
Do not use InmateSales as a roster. The jail's calling section references InmateSales for inmate calling and funds, and the vendor has mobile apps for account use where a facility supports those services. That channel does not replace the jail information line and should not be used to confirm whether someone is booked in Shiawassee County.
Shiawassee County Search Fields
A normal roster search-field table would list name, booking number, date, status, or facility filters. Shiawassee County is different because the located official sheriff pages did not publish that kind of public search form. The field inventory keeps the record clear by showing the actual official channels available from the research.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| No official public roster located | n/a | n/a | The sheriff site did not publish a searchable roster or current-inmate list. |
| Inmate Information phone | phone channel | n/a | Call 989-743-2230 for current Shiawassee County Jail inmate information. |
| Records or FOIA request | written request | depends on request | Use sheriff records or FOIA for booking records, incident reports, and other non-online records. |
Michigan Courts, MDOC OTIS, BOP, and ICE do have their own search fields, but those fields do not search the Shiawassee County Jail roster. They search court cases, state correctional records, sentenced federal custody, and immigration detention records.
Shiawassee County Record Fields
No Shiawassee County public online inmate profile was visible in the located sheriff sources. That means fields such as booking number, booking date, bond, current charges, housing unit, mugshot, arresting agency, and release status should not be described as online roster fields. Some of those details may exist in jail records, arrest reports, booking records, or court filings, but access depends on the record type and any Michigan FOIA exemptions.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Public online roster profile | Not located on the official sheriff or county site during research. |
| Mugshot or booking photo | Not published in an official online roster that was located. It may be requested as a public record subject to exemptions. |
| Booking number | Not visible online in a county roster. Ask jail or records staff if a booking number is needed for a specific request. |
| Booking date and time | Not visible in a county online roster. It may appear in a releasable booking record, court filing, or jail record. |
| Charges | Not visible in a county online roster. Filed charges should be checked through Michigan Courts once a case opens. |
| Bond | May be available from the jail, court, or case record depending on stage and hold status. |
| Housing location | Not visible online and may be restricted for jail security reasons. |
| Release status | Use the jail information line for current custody and VINELink for notification where available. |
| Redactions | Medical, juvenile, security, victim, investigation, and nonpublic details may be withheld or blacked out. |
Shiawassee County Booking Records
Booking begins when jail staff accept custody from the arresting agency or transport officer. A Shiawassee County arrest may involve a sheriff deputy, city police agency, Michigan State Police, or another lawful authority. Intake commonly includes identity review, warrant and hold checks, property inventory, search under jail rules, biographical data, fingerprints, a booking photo, medical and mental-health screening, and initial classification. Classification means jail staff decide an initial housing and safety level based on risk, needs, charge type, separation issues, and facility safety.
A booking record is not the same as a court record. The jail may hold a person on an arrest, warrant, probation or parole hold, transport order, or court order before the prosecutor files formal charges. The prosecutor may later decline, amend, reduce, add, or dismiss charges. For that reason, a person trying to understand the formal case should use court records after the arrest, while a person trying to confirm current custody should start with the jail information line.
- Booking
- The jail intake record created after an arrest or custody transfer.
- Detainer
- A hold request from another agency, such as parole, another county, federal authorities, or immigration officials.
- Personal recognizance
- Release on a promise to appear and follow court conditions, often without upfront cash.
- No-bond hold
- A custody status where local bond will not release the person until a court or holding agency changes the order.
Note: Recent arrestees may not be ready for visits, calls, or public-record processing until intake steps are complete.
Shiawassee County Records Requests
The sheriff records counter and FOIA process are the main channels for Shiawassee County inmate records that are not available by phone. The records counter is at the sheriff office address, 201 E. McArthur Street, Corunna, MI 48817. Posted records hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Thursday hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. only. The records page lists in-person report copies at $5.00 for the first three pages and $1.00 per added page, mailed copies at $6.00 for the first three pages and $1.00 per added page, accident reports at $10.00, and fingerprinting at $15.00 per card.
Michigan FOIA allows a written request to be submitted without using the county form, but the sheriff FOIA packet is useful because it prompts the requester to describe the record, choose copy or inspection, and select pickup, mail, email, or digital-media delivery. Under MCL 15.235, a public body generally responds within 5 business days unless it takes one 10-business-day extension. Under MCL 15.243, exempt material can be withheld or redacted.
The sheriff records page is shown in the screenshot from the official Shiawassee County sheriff records page.
The records page is important because it gives local counter hours and fees that a generic roster search cannot supply.
Shiawassee County Custody Systems
Several systems can look like inmate records, but they do not cover the same population. The Shiawassee County Jail handles local pretrial detainees, sentenced misdemeanants, and people held temporarily for court, bond, transport, probation or parole matters, and other lawful holds. The Michigan Department of Corrections handles sentenced state prisoners, parolees, and probationers through OTIS. Federal and immigration records use still different systems.
| Custody Type | Where to Look | Local Use |
|---|---|---|
| Current county jail custody | Shiawassee County Jail information line | Use 989-743-2230 because no official public online roster was located. |
| Filed court charges | Michigan Courts case search | Use after a public criminal case is opened by the court. |
| Sentenced state custody | MDOC OTIS | Use after state prison sentencing, parole, or probation supervision. |
| Custody notification | VINELink Michigan | Use for release, transfer, or custody-status notifications where the person is tracked. |
| Sentenced federal custody | Federal BOP inmate locator | Use for BOP prisoners and many people released from federal custody after 1982. |
| Immigration detention | ICE Online Detainee Locator System | Use A-number and country or biographical details. ICE does not publish public mugshots there. |
Shiawassee County DOC Searches
MDOC OTIS is the state locator for sentenced prisoners and many parole or probation records. It is not a Shiawassee County Jail roster. A person arrested in the county may stay local before sentencing, then move to MDOC after felony sentencing and transport. At that point, county visit rules, mail rules, and jail phone questions no longer control the person's status. MDOC facility placement depends on sentence, classification, medical needs, programming, security, and bed space.
OTIS search fields may include last name, first name, MDOC number, sex, race, age, offender status, and identifying marks. Results may show an MDOC number, status, location or supervision office, offense information, sentence terms, county of conviction, dates, and sometimes a photo. For prison-level visitation, mail, phone, and deposit rules, use MDOC family resources rather than the Shiawassee County Jail page.
The state locator appears in the screenshot from MDOC OTIS offender search.
OTIS is useful after state custody begins, but it should not be read as proof that someone is or is not in the local jail.
Shiawassee County Jail Facility
The confirmed adult detention facility in Shiawassee County is the Shiawassee County Jail. No separate MDOC prison, BOP facility, ICE detention facility, or confirmed municipal jail page was identified inside Shiawassee County for a separate facility listing. City police agencies may arrest or temporarily hold a person before transport, but the county jail is the local adult custody facility described in the official jail research.

Shiawassee County Inmate Contact
Mail must use the inmate's name, Shiawassee County Jail, 201 E. McArthur Street, Corunna, MI 48817. The jail page bars inmate-to-inmate mail, Polaroid pictures, sexually explicit photographs, packages, stickers, perfume, lipstick marks, stamps, and envelopes. These are local rules from the jail page, so they should be checked before sending mail.
For commissary, the jail page says money orders are accepted and should be made payable to the inmate. It does not publish a kiosk, online deposit vendor, phone deposit vendor, fee schedule, or deposit limit in the reviewed jail text. InmateSales is referenced for calling and funds, including an app channel, but only for account and communication services where supported. It is not a public Shiawassee County inmate roster.
Note: Confirm current custody with the jail before scheduling a visit, sending funds, or mailing items.
